Cpt. Caveman's TTM Autographs #157

Welcome back for another weekly TTM success post. So after having a great graphing time at the golf tournament last week I was surprised to see graphers attending the American Century Championship that takes place at the Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course in Stateline Nevada start complaining because the people in charge of the tournament started enforcing stricter rules for people trying to get autographs. The main change graphers complained about was that they were no longer allowing Sports Memorabilia and collectables. So no longer would they let you bring in items like baseball's, basketball's, footballs, hockey pucks and believe it or not photographs. I even ran across a few reports of them not allowing trading cards. They did say that they'd allow jerseys but only if they were being worn. Golf flags are perfectly fine though. They're doing this for "Safety" reasons and to try and stop the growing number of people selling the items signed at the tournament. They also stated anyone caught with these items would have them confiscated. Most graphers whether they just collect or they sell the autographs usually have a clear bag with various items to get signed at these types of events and a grapher or dealer is usually easily spotted in a crowd of regular fans trying to get autographs. I even carry one with me when the PGA Tour and NFL training camps roll into town. After seeing numerous collectors and dealers getting upset with the new rules some who even contacted the tournament people on social media criticizing them and it got me thinking. Sure I understood the disappointment of the people who just collect not being able to try for an autograph on an item they really want signed but there's always other options like getting a flag signed or other items they actually allow. The people I noticed really flipping out was the ones that wanted nothing more than to get autographs to sell. After the new rule was announced a man at the tournament started taking pictures of grapher and dealers who had large numbers of items in bags and reporting them to the tournament staff and security calling them all "Autograph Pros". This started a number of the upset graphes turning the hate towards the man. He's not the enemy or the reason the tournament staff decided to do this.  The dealers are mad because it could possibly hurt their bottom line and the collectors are mad because they can't get things they really want signed. I understand both sides but really just go with it. Alot of us do this for the pure love of collecting and occasionally meeting some of our heros or idols and sure it sucks not getting that special picture or card signed you can still get an autograph on an item they allow so why get upset and attack the tournament or idiots with camera's. Just be happy you have the opportunity to graph. This kind of behavior will ultimately make it harder in the coming years at this and possibly other events. It's not entirely the dealers faults either. Sure while some bring tons of stuff to get signed others only do like the collectors do and try for one or two a day and not trying for a stack of photos or five jerseys of every player in attendance. Like I said I'm a collector and I carry a bag with pictures, balls and a multitude of sharpies or paint pens and I've occasionally been mistaken as a dealer because I'm there everyday trying for autographs and i sometimes have to politely explain I'd never sell the autographs and I'm only an obsessive collector that's collected autographs since I was a boy who just wants more autographs like alot of other collectors out there. What I don't do though is get upset when someone says they won't sign for me because of it or if an event has special rules about graphing I try to follow them and be happy I'm able to do something I love and get some autographs. I don't really understand the problem that the tournament has with people graphing for the fun of it or the ones trying to profit from the autographs. Maby flag sales are down this year who knows but if the players or celebs want to sign other items they will regardless of the rules and cleaver graphers will always try to sneak in banned items. The tournament is making its money either way so what's the problem. Anyways remember it always doesn't go the way we'd like it to when we graph but there's no reason to get upset or attack the people that disagrees with us. It's just an autograph if and there's always tomorrow. So now that's over some more disappointing news as this week our mail box was barren again. Thank goodness the PGA Tour was good to us or I'd be really bummed out in this two week dryspell. So unfortunately that's all for this week. Have a great graphing weekend and I'll be back next week with more TTM autographs and address's and don't forget to enter the autograph giveaway contest HERE

Cpt. Caveman's TTM Autographs Bonus Post Graphing The PGA Tour Greenbrier Classic Part 6

Welcome to another bonus in person graphing post. I headed back out Sunday for the final great day of graphing at the PGA Tour Greenbrier Classic / A Military Tribute at the Greenbrier Golf tournament. I arrived around noon and headed out on the course to follow Mickelson and watch him play awhile and killing time until my favorite players started to finish up with their final round of the tournament. After following Phil around for awhile I headed back to the practice area next to the building players sign and drop off scorecards just before he finished up and was able to get him to sign another picture. After Phil signed I got a few other players so sign a picture including Sam Saunders who is Arnold Palmer's grandson. Next to roll through was Webb Simpson who stopped long enough to sign for two young boys and myself. Jim Furyk finished up and came over and signed and talked to us for a second then I was able to get his legendary caddy Fluff to sign the picture also when he walked past us. Tony Finau finished up and I had him sign a nice 8x10. Finau is an amazing player and he's someone to keep an eye on in the future. As the tournament was starting to wrap up the last bunch of groups to come through had several players I wanted including Bubba Watson, Xander Schauffele, Harold Varner III and Kevin Na who was having an amazing day and round and had pretty much sealed his victory for the day by leading with an impressive 19 under par with only a few holes left to go. As it turned out Na won the tournament and after the presentation of the trophy and jacket he was being pulled away by the media but he still stopped and signed some so I was able to get him on a tournament program. After they took Na away I was able to catch Sir Nick Faldo as he left the Golf Channels  booth and had him sign a picture and to finish off the day I had commentator Jim Nantz sign a picture. After Nantz signed and I noticed most of the fans had already left and the players had all finished so I decided to call I'd a day. I'm sad to see it come to and end. I love golf and wish I had just a few more day of graphing left. I still had a blast and received fourteen autographs today bringing the weekly final total of 127 autographs over six day's. So  unfortunately that's all for this year's PGA Tournament. Up next is the Texans NFL training camp that starts in only 18 days. So have a great graphing Sunday and I'll be back next week with more TTM autographs and address's.

Cpt. Caveman's TTM Autographs Bonus Post Graphing The PGA Tour Greenbrier Classic Part 5

Welcome to another bonus in person graphing post. I headed back out Saturday for another great day of graphing at the PGA Tour Greenbrier Classic / A Military Tribute at the Greenbrier Golf tournament. I had to work awhile Saturday so I didn't arrive at the golf course until 2:30 in the afternoon but my timing couldn't have been better and Phil Mickelson was just finishing up for the day. After he did his media interviews he came over and signed and took pictures. I got my picture signed and then got a picture with Phil. Right after that Jim Furyk and Bubba Watson finished up. Furyk came right over to sign the he got to me he signed my picture but when I asked for him to put 58 on it also he asked if I had anything more for him to sign. I didn't so I said no. He then proceeded to tell me if I want multiples then just bring them and he'd sign them all at at once instead of me waiting and trying everyday lol. I informed him I'd never sell any and they are for my personal collection. He wasn't being rude or anything and seamed really sincere but getting a bunch done at once takes all the fun out of it. I love the autographs but it's also about the thrill of the chase. By then Bubba Watson was heading our way about said he'sgot an interview to do real quick and he'd sign up by the clubhouse and sure enough he did. After that I got a few random signatures from golfers and then i got Jim Nantz. I was going to try for Webb Simpson again but he had a bad day and ran right to the driving range. As the day came to a close I Waited for Nick Faldo to finish his broadcast then got him to sign a picture on his way out. After that I packed up and headed home. Im headed back out in the morning to graph the final round so until then enjoy a few pictures and my autographs from today's Greenbrier Classic / A Military Tribute at the Greenbrier.

Cpt. Caveman's TTM Autographs #156

Welcome back for another weekly TTM success post. As you probably noticed by the bonus in person graphing posts I've been out most of the week graphing the PGA Tour Greenbrier Classic and I've been having a wonderful time. The crowds aren't as bad this year so competition for fresh ink hasn't been to bad. TTM collecting is fun and great but nothing beats actually getting to meet the celebs and athletes up close and personal and getting them to sign stuff. For the most part all the people out graphing have been great. I've seen a few friends out graphing that I only get to see a few times a year at these events and I've made a few new graphing friends this year. I have noticed a few dealers out this week sending kids out to get autographs while the dealers hang back getting proof photos from a distance but even they have been relaxed and not causing any problems. One women about blew it for everyone else by yelling "Hey Bubba" over and over and over again while he was talking to someone when everyone else was patently waiting for him to finish talking so he could come over to sign and he did get a little aggravated with her and raised his voice a little but he did eventually come over and sign. All in all its been a fun week wearing out sharpies and I hate to see it come to an end after Sundays final round. I can't wait to see who actually wins the tournament this year and hopefully it's someone I was able to graph already as I have been lucky enough to get all the previous Greenbrier Classic winners autographs over the years. The fans have  been amazing with no one shoving or pushing and just lining up and patently waiting for the players to sign. The players have been amazing at signing and only Phil Mickelson made people wait for him to finish play before he'd sign but this is the norm for Mickelson but when he's done he makes sure he signs for everyone wanting him or stops to take pictures. He's really a nice guy and usually draws a huge crowd. Now that actual tournament play is going on all the players are doing this and making people wait until they finish playing for the day before signing but that's to be expected. It's all business during official play day's but most are great about signing after they turn in score cards. I've always loved golf and used to caddy at the Greenbrier Resort as a kid so it's so much fun seeing some of my heroes out on the course. So if you ever get the opportunity to hit a PGA Tour event I highly recommend it and if you're ever around West Virginia the week of July 4th you should check out the Greenbrier Classic / A Tribute to the Military you won't be disappointed. You get right up in the action and crowds aren't bad like other major events like the Masters making it the perfect event for getting autographs. Anyways it was a slow no mail week for us so unfortunately that's it for this week. Have a great graphing weekend and I'll be back next week with more TTM autographs and address's and don't forget to check the Cpt. Caveman's TTM Autographs Facebook page or my Twitter Monday for details on how to enter the autograph giveaway contest to celebrate the three year anniversary of Cpt. Caveman's TTM Autographs.
