Cpt. Caveman's TTM Autographs #166

Welcome back for another weekly TTM success post. I hope all you TTMers on the east coast and especially anyone in the Carolinas made it through hurricane Florence without any major damage or losses. So how do you feel about using a celebs or athletes private home address when sending a TTM autograph request? I personally prefer to use a talent agency or management address when a working address is available but sometimes sending to a home address is the only option. I understand some celebs may not like people knowing their personal and private home address's or getting tons of fan mail and autograph requests piling up with their regular mail that's making the poor postal worker who delivers them and is trying to keep up with all of the autograph requests and fans letters being sent causing them to snap and start dumping all their mail to be delivered into a secluded area in the woods somewhere lol. Some celebs avoid this situation by using a P.O. Box address for fan mail and others just refuse any fan mail sent to their home address. Unfortunately you just never know how a celeb will respond to fan mail sent to a home address. Some won't mind while others will just automatically trash your letters or simply send it by with a dreaded RTS stamped across the envelope. Some don't mind and others might reply but ask how you got ahold of the address and ask that you please don't share it. Like I said I'd rather use a management address but when the only option that's available is a home address sometimes you just have to try. Alot will still respond but it's never a garunteed success and then when it is and the address gets put out there it gets flooded with so many requests in a short period of time that they either stop accepting unsolicited mail or in extreme cases it turns them off signing all together. Sometimes private address's are our only options and as long as we don't abuse them or over share others will have the opportunity to try using them but when other options are available I try those first and try private ones as a last resort. Anyways let's get on to this week's TTM successes. Monday brought an autopenned return from Mel Gibson after ten months. Wednesday brought two returns. First we received a cool return when both our pictures came back signed by Erik Estrada after only a month and a half. To finish off our day and week we received both pictures we sent via venue to Jon Cryer back signed after just under five months. That's all for this week. Have a great graphing weekend and I'll be back next week with more TTM autographs and address's.

Cpt. Caveman's TTM Autographs #165

Welcome back for another weekly TTM success post. Sadly we lost another legend this week when Burt Reynolds passed away at the age of 82. He had recently hit the con scene and that gave numerous fans a true moment of joy and a few extra cool points by giving them the chance to meet him and get an autograph or photo. He did occasionally sign TTM over the past few years but returns from him were few and far between and I only ran across a few rare successes in the last three or four years. Although I tried to get him TTM several times I never received a return and I never had the opportunity to get him in person. I still have his autograph in my personal collection by getting a 2008 Upper Deck Icons Football Movie Icons Letterman signed patch card #2 of 14 that's still one of my favorite signed cards. For someone who grew up loving films like "Smokey and the Bandit" and of course "Cannon Ball Run" his passing is a true loss to me and his many fans. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family. Remember when a celeb passes away the market gets flooded with numerous fakes and the authentic autographs prices hit super high levels so if you're in market to purchase their autographs to add them to your collection make sure do your homework and check for authenticity and if you can wait a few weeks to a month or so before you purchase one when prices start to go back down to normal so you don't pay extra for the over inflated recently departed prices. Autograph prices go way up every time a celeb passes away as people quickly try to get ahold of a momento from one of their idols that brought so much joy to them. This also brings out the forgers and the price gougers. While I understand the dealers trying to maximize their profits by selling at higher prices I think the forgers who flood the market with fakes just to profit off someone's death and taking advantage of unsuspecting fans and collectors are the true scumbags. Remember not everyone that gets into autographs is as serious about it like alot of us are or they're just super new to collecting and don't know any better yet. They will more than likely purchase a horrible fake autograph off eBay with some generic COA and totally believe it's truly authentic and they got a great deal by paying $20 instead of a few hundred like the actual authentic ones are currently selling for. Anyways as always take the time to do some research before you purchase any autographs but put some extra time into it when you're in market to buy an autograph from someone who recently passed away. Now on to this week's TTM successes. Saturday brought the first and only return of the week when we received our one photo we sent back signed by Tom Skerritt after only eleven days. This was my fourth attempt in as many years so I'm beyond happy to finally add him to our "ALIEN" collection. That's all for this week have a great graphing weekend and I'll be back next week with more TTM autographs and address's.

Cpt. Caveman's TTM Autographs #164

Welcome back for another weekly TTM success post. This week let's talk about trying to get a multi signed piece TTM. A great addition to any autograph collection is a photo signed by multiple film or show cast members or athletes. It's awesome when you have the opportunity to work on a multi signed piece in person but when you can't get that ink face to face or through a consignment then it's time to try TTM. I'm always a little weary when sending something that's already been signed out to try for another signature. Remember one of the major rules of TTM graphing is never send something you're not willing to loose. Nothing is guaranteed in this hobby and any number of things could happen to your prized multi signed item. Things get lost in the mail everyday. Sometimes the celebs or their assistants just toss fan mail out in the trash and never lay eyes on what's inside that's special to you. As a rule of thumb when trying to get another signature added to something already signed is I try to only send items that have been signed by celebs that I have more than one item signed by them. That way if something does happens and it doesn't return I still have at least one of their autograhs in my collection. If you plan on sending a high value item or a rare piece in a TTM attempt it might be best to first write the celeb asking if it would be ok if you sent them the item you want to get sign. This is better than just blindly taking a chance and gambling with something that may be irreplaceable. Make sure you send a SASE just like a regular TTM request so they can easily send you their reply. If and when they say it's ok to send the item you can go the extra mile and play it safe by shipping the item with a tracking number and sometimes even have them send it so it requires a signature when It's picked up or delivered. While you're at it go ahead and pay for tracked shipping for the return when they send it back. You're always taking a risk when you send something valuable in the mail and even tracked packages come up missing every now and then so just be careful and take every precaution you can to insure your items are safe and sound. Now on to this week's TTM successes. Monday brought the first return of the week when we received both out Star Trek TOS photos back signed by Robert Brown after only eight days. Tuesday brought a great return when Richard Karn returned our Home Improvement photos back signed and it only took eight days for them make the round trip back to my mail box. Thursday brought an amazing return from the lovely Sean Young who signed both our photos from Dune and took eight months to return. She even sent an extra signed 5x7 photo of her and her husband and a smaller pre prined photo. I thought this attempt was a lost cause after seven months of waiting and seeing a bunch of other TTMers who've had success with a quick turtnaround. After seven months of crying the no return empty mailbox blues I decided to rewrite her and try again. Unfortunately attempt #2 came back with a dreaded yellow RTS sticker on it after only seven days. Shortly after I sent my 2nd request I began seeing several others get a RTS  from her and I figured she had gotten hammered with TTM requests and stopped signing. So I was totally surprised when I Opened my SASE today and discovered my Dune photos actually came back signed. Friday brought a return when we received both our Twilight DVD covers back signed by Peter Facinelli after only ten days. That's if for this week have a safe labor day weekend and I'll be back next week with more TTM autographs and address's.
